The municipality of Alba Iulia receives the title of "Sustainable Community" in the field of energy efficiency

Alba-Iulia, August 9th, 2021. The municipality of Alba Iulia received the Certificate of "Sustainable Community" in the field of energy efficiency in accordance with the European Energy Award system, the award being made in a ceremony attended by:

Gabriel Codru Pleșa - Mayor of the city

Arthur Mattli - Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation in Romania

Dr. Dorin Beu - President of RoGBC Transylvania

Andrei Botiș - President of RoGBC (Romanian Council for Green Buildings), as well as other officials.

"Alba Iulia has made remarkable progress lately in terms of energy efficiency, taking all the necessary steps to be called a Sustainable Community, implementing 41.5% of possible measures. The certificate attests to the commitment of local authorities to improving the quality of life, competitiveness and sustainable performance, and people will immediately feel the beneficial effects of caring for the environment. This certificate is awarded in accordance with the European Energy Award system, first launched in Switzerland under the name Energiestadt. " said Andrei Botiş, President of the Romanian Council for Green Buildings.

Immediately after the ceremony, those present moved to the entrance to the city, where the "Sustainable Community" sign was placed.

The Switzerland-Romania Cooperation Program, which aims to contribute to reducing economic and social disparities within the enlarged European Union, funded the project "Institutionalization of the European Energy Award in Romania", a certification scheme recognized at European level. At the same time, the European CoME EASY program continued the harmonization of the European Energy Award with other community evaluation systems. Both projects were developed by the Romania Green Building Council.
